Sheet Metal Shop Fabricator
Fabricates and assembles sheet metal equipment products and structures, such as ducts, control boxes, drainpipes, and furnace casings. Work may involve any of the following: setting up and operating fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal; shaping metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammer, operating soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts inspecting, assembling, and smoothing seams and joints of burred surfaces.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

- Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on material such as roofing panels, using calculators, scribes, dividers, squares, or rulers
- Fasten seams or joints together with welds, bolts, cement, rivets, solder, caulks, metal drive clips, or bonds to assemble components into products or to repair sheet metal items
- May assemble parts, such as flashings, pipes, tubes, heating and air conditioning ducts, furnace casings
- Convert blueprints into shop drawings to be followed in the construction or assembly of sheet metal products
- Fabricate ducts for high efficiency heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to maximize efficiency of systems
- Develop and lay out patterns that use materials most efficiently using computerized metal working equipment or experiment with different layouts.
- Load and/or transport pre-fabricated parts to construction sites for final assembly or installation
- Drill and punch holes in metal, for screws, bolts, and rivets
- Trim, file, grind, de-burr, buff, or smooth surfaces, seams, or joints of assembled parts, using hand tools or portable power tools
- Finish parts, using hacksaws or hand, rotary, or squaring shears
- Operate heavy equipment and machinery in the performance of the essential duties
- Work with and around hazardous materials, as well as at heights and in confined spaces in the performance of these essential duties
- Drive a vehicle to various jobsites throughout working hours
- Maintain valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company policy
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in manufacturing sheet metal products
- Must possess strong mathematical, mechanical, and technical skills
- Ability cut, bend, shape and/or weld sheet metal into complex shapes as required following shop drawings and prints
- Ability to solve problems & thinking critically
- All employees must provide and maintain the required tool inventory for this position
