Controller

SUMMARY:

The Controller will interact with all business units and be viewed as a trusted business advisor by senior-level managers and above. Critical outcomes include supporting the Executive Leadership team with key financial information and operational analytics and driving a culture of accountability in managing the business, adding value to operating businesses and voicing well-substantiated dissenting opinions. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of all employees in the accounting and finance department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Issues financial statements in accordance with GAAP to internal and external parties
  2. Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data to internal stakeholders
  3. Manage all accounting operations including sales tax reporting
  4. Help develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  5. Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans of action
  6. Review month-end and year-end close processes
  7. Coordinates with external auditors and tax preparers
  8. Responds to all notices from taxing authorities
  9. Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential
  10. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related items as needed
  11. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements
  12. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for employee job performance
  13. Perform other duties as assigned

ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work performed in office environment. Involves frequent contact with other employees. May require working under stressful conditions.
  • Operates office machinery including computers, fax machine, calculator, and photocopier.
  • Requires manual dexterity for office machine operation including computer and calculator, stooping, bending to handle files and supplies, and mobility to complete errands or deliveries.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry/move up to 20lbs
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and arms
  • Must be able to complete job duties proficiently while adapting to changing demands and priorities
  • Must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time to perform duties in a safe manner

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting plus 7-10 years of experience, advanced degree preferred
  • Must be a CPA
  • SOX experienced preferred
  • Strong experience with ERP software and database management
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Construction industry experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly with other employees, written and verbal
  • Good organizational and time-management skills
  • Knowledge of filing systems and organizing principles
  • Ability to develop and lead members of a team
  • Develop good relationships with internal and external parties
  • Ability to complete daily tasks with limited supervision and minimal errors requiring re-work
  • A current valid driver’s license is required
