Automation & Controls Specialist
This document outlines the essential duties, job related requirements, and fundamental personal competencies as such pertain to the Automation and Controls Specialist position within the Automation & Robotics Division of Multi-Craft Contractors, Inc.
As a member of the Multi-Crafts Automation and Robotics team you will be part of a highly dynamic group of individuals focused on creating advanced automation and robotic systems. You will help our customers create more reliable and efficient processes through the implementation of the systems we create. You will have the opportunity to apply cutting edge technology to solve complex problems for a variety of industries.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Specify the controls hardware for a giving project. a. Including: PLC selection, HMI Selection, Safety System hardware, vision systems, sensor, etc.
- Create Submittals for each control hardware components.
- Assist Project Manager with ordering and tracking delivery for all control hardware.
- Create the schematic prints for an automated system.
- Create panel layouts.
- Work closely with the mechanical engineering group to ensure the electrical and mechanical design function together.
- Support system startups.
- Create and compile turn over packages.
- Including: the writing of User/Maintenance manuals and compiling OEM equipment documentation used on a project.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for employee job performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- The work environment consists of the typical indoor office environments, and the possibility of outdoor construction sites, exposing the employee to extreme temperatures, humidity, wind, rain, ice, and snow.
- Must wear the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for this position and different jobsite environments.
- Work performed in office environment. Involves frequent contact with other employees. May require working under stressful conditions.
- Operates office machinery including computers, fax machine, calculator, and photocopier.
- Requires manual dexterity for office machine operation including computer and calculator, stooping, bending to handle files and supplies, and mobility to complete errands or deliveries.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry/move up to 20lbs
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to perform repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and arms
- Must be able to complete job duties proficiently while adapting to changing demands and priorities
- Must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time to perform duties in a safe manner

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate clearly with other employees
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Proficiency in use of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Ability to apply engineering principals to solve complex problems
- Ability to apply a logical approach to developing electrical schematics and panel layouts
- CAD experience (AutoCad Electrical Preferred)
- Working Knowledge of “High” Voltage Equipment & Circuits (230-1000 VAC/DC)

- Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)
- Industrial Network Devices
- DC Power Supplies
- Industrial Network Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferred
- Familiarity with ABB/Fanuc robots, preferred
- Experience with servo motion control, preferred
- Ability to deal with difficult people
- Ability to complete daily tasks with limited supervision and minimal errors requiring re-work
- A current valid driver’s license is required
